Our Top 5 Tips For Starting Back At The Gym
Blog
Starting a new gym routine can be daunting, especially if you’re new to the fitness world or if you are returning post injury.
However, with a little bit of planning and preparation (and help from your physio), you can ensure that your first trip to the gym is a success.

Here Are Our Top 5 Tips For Starting Back At The Gym

1. Set Realistic Goals

Before heading to the gym, set some realistic goals for yourself. Do you want to lose weight, build muscle, improve your overall health and fitness, or are you trying to return after an injury? Once you have a clear idea of what you want to achieve, you and your physio or trainer can start to tailor your workouts accordingly.

2. Start Slowly

Don’t try to do too much too soon. If you’ve been sedentary for a while, jumping into a high-intensity workout can be overwhelming and potentially harmful if you are returning after an injury. Your physio can help tailor it specifically to you but it might look like light cardio or resistance training and gradually increase the intensity over time.

3. Focus on Proper Form

Proper form is crucial when it comes to getting the most out of your workouts and avoiding injury. Your physio will take the time to help you learn the correct form for each exercise and then it’s up to you to practice it consistently. As always though, if you’re unsure about anything, ask for help!

4. Stay Consistent

Consistency is key when it comes to seeing results. Your physio will help you build a tailored schedule to safely return to the gym. It’s then up to you to commit to working out regularly. Remember, even small efforts add up over time.

5. Mix it Up

*Only applicable if you are injury free and aren’t rehabbing anything specifically

Boredom can be a big barrier to sticking with a gym routine, so don’t be afraid to mix things up. Try different exercises, classes, or equipment to keep your workouts fresh and interesting. Plus, varying your workouts can help you avoid plateauing and keep making progress towards your goals.

Be Patient, Stay Consistent & *Try To Have Fun 🙂

Starting a new gym routine can be intimidating, but by following these tips, you can set yourself up for success.
Remember to be patient with yourself, stay consistent, and have fun with it.
With time and dedication, you can achieve your fitness goals and enjoy all the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle.
