Thank you to everyone who completed our surveys and gave us your valuable feedback. It’s so lovely to hear about all the positive experiences and treatments our team provide, and there were some solid nuggets that we can act on for us to continue to improve what we offer.

Foot And Ankle Pain In This Warmer Weather

As the warmer weather rolls round, we start seeing foot and ankle pain increase in the practice. The extra espi walks and beach runs can cause some sore bits and bobs. The 2 most common walking/running injuries we see are (1) plantar fasciitis (now called plantar heel pain) and (2) achilles tendinopathy.

To avoid these overuse injuries, ensure to increase your walking or running strategically.

A few tips

  • choose to increase time exercising OR frequency. ie Time exercising: if you increase walking from 30mins to 60mins, keep the amount of times per week you walk the same. Frequency exercising: If you choose to increase from walking 3x per week to every day, do not increase length of time.
  • always have 1 day rest per week.
  • check out the soles of your shoes and ensure they aren’t worn out. Usually you will see the tread has worn off on the outside of your heels or near the ball of your foot.
  • never throw away your old shoes until you’re sure your new ones are just as comfy. If you have changed your shoes recently and the foot pain has increased.
  • if your pain persists more than 2 days and isn’t improving on its own, it’s time for a visit to your physio or podiatrist.
