As mentioned in our previous post, strength training is essential if you’re a runner.

It prevents injuries by up to 50% and allows you to run more efficiently (say no more!).

If you’re getting bored with your current strength training, or you want to change it up and add something new, then participating in Reformer Pilates is a great place to start.

What Is Reformer Pilates

Reformer Pilates is a type of exercise completed on a machine (a reformer) that challenges your entire body.

It works through a spring system which alters how hard or easy an exercise can be.

It uses the principles of Pilates and can be a really beneficial way to rehab after an injury and to prevent any aches and pains.

How Does Pilates Help My Running

Reformer Pilates has many benefits; you will improve your muscle strength, endurance, balance, coordination, flexibility and range of motion. All in a fun and enjoyable manner that helps to decrease stress, anxiety and improve your mood.

Here at Phyx. Physio + Pilates, we have a large focus on technique. Completing slow, controlled and mindful movements with the correct alignment helps to slowly rewire your brain.

Add in repetition and this will start to translate into your running, making you more efficient as the muscles work like they’re designed to do.

How Do I Start Reformer Pilates & What Will It Involve

If you wish to add Reformer Pilates into your running program, you will first work closely with one of our Physiotherapists to identify any muscle weaknesses, establish your running goals and then create an individualised program.

After completing a few 1:1 sessions, we will ensure you are confident and comfortable with the exercises, before you come and use our Reformers to complete your program by yourself.
